Anyone here own a Segway or Eletric scooter?

And what have been your experances using Amtrak or the Subway or Commuter Rail?

…Been wondering when I will see my first Segway out in public…The only one’s so far have been in print or on TV.

Do they make steam locos?

I see maybe one a week on the sidewalks of NYC, where everyone walks a lot. It looks really weird because it appears that the person on the Segway is floating along motionless, almost like a ghost.

You can buy one, but there’s nowhere you can use it. They’re not allowed on the road, they’re not allowed on the sidewalk, they’re not allowed on cycle paths, so what’s the point.

I have seen police riding Segways at various Metrolink stations.

…Out in the wide open spaces like this area I believe one could find a place to run it…Can understand the problems with it on a city side walk. Last I saw them advertised I believe the price was in the 4 thousand dollar range. Boy, that really would be neat to run on our bike / walking trail here…But I understand that probably would be a no no…Our {paved}, trail on ex. C&O RR which is about 30 miles in length and will get longer soon…would be ideal.

I couldn’t imagine being able to lug one of those onto a train- just too heavy at nearly 100 pounds. And people stare at them too…

I have an electric wheelchair and so far have had no access problems to Amtrak, ACE, any of the airlines that I have traveled, but the cruise ship industry is very discouraging they do their best to avoid letting passengers with mobility problems from even taking one of their crusies. Thank god that the U S supreme court is loooking into the cruise ship industry and their lack of handicap access.

…Have read somewhere the Segway is good for about 20 miles on one charge…That sounds incredible…How could a battery that size propel it that far…

I always thought it might be useful to some disabled people who can operate it safely and have access to low-floor buses and high platforms at rail stations. But I don’t think it’s effectively getting people out of their cars as the developer hoped it would. But somebody has to take the risk or nobody else will come along and improve on it. Ever since some tribal leader got a couple of slaves to haul him around in a sedan chair somebody’s been trying to develop a better cure for walking.

As far as cruise ships go they have no escuse with all the room they have
Seen them in DC…[:)] But who can aford them
