I’m looking to add sidewalks to the residential section on our layout (HO scale).
I found Plastruct’s (1:100) curb and sidewalk set (their number 91690). Walthers 570-91690. It is likely intended for architectural models. They are on a sheet (vacuumed formed). Looks like this:
I really like the “cut out” section for grass and trees. And the driveway sections are also nice. It is almost exactly what I’m looking for.
However I have not been able to find what the width of the sidewalk portion is to see if it will look alright on an HO scale layout.
Has anyone used this before? Do you happen to know what the width of the sidewalk portion is?
According to the Plastruct web site, the overall sheet is 7" x 10". From measurements made on prints of photos copied from the Plastruct site, I calculated that the sidewalk is approximately 1/2" wide (close to 4" in HO scale)
1/2 " is what my print out came to as well. Although that is including the sidewalk, planter, and curb all in one.
Did you mean just the sidewalk portion as 1/2"? If so then my print out is off.
Using the same print out, that would make the sidewalk portion only about 1/4", or 21 3/4" in HO scale (a little under 2 feet) which seems tight for a sidewalk.
But these measurements just don’t seem right to me looking at the unpainted sidewalks photo. The sheet they come on is supposedly 7" x 12". There are 5 sidewalk sections covering the 7" portion:
Adding up 1/2" sidewalk x 5 section (= 2 1/2") plus a generous estimate of 5/16" for the sections in between the 5 sidewalk sections (multiplied by 4) = 1 1/4". Total this up and you get 3 3/4" leaving 3 1/4" unaccounted for from the 7" total [:S]
The 1/2" dimension is for the sidewalk only. It does not include the curb, gutter and planting area. I came up with that figure by printing the picture, measured the picture sides which did not come out 7x10. I then calculated an adjustment factor, measured the sidewalk and multiplied by the adjustment. The result was very close to 1/2".
I have since printed a square (long dimension cut off, the second image in your 1st post) photo at 7x7 and measured the sidewalk directly. The result 1/2".
Note that sidewalk on the left side is only about 1/4". The oblique view (your 1st image) also shows this.

1/2" sounds just about right for our layout [Y]
