Anyone model the Landmarks?

Anyone model the landmarks…like Horseshoe Curve…Williams loop…Tehachapi Loop etc…?

I heard a rumor once that there was a Pennsylvania RR modeller out there somewhere who didn’t have Horseshoe Curve on his layout, but I never really believed it.

The La Mesa club in San Diego is modelling the Tehachapi line from Kern Jct. to Mojave mostly to scale with some selective compression. All the landmarks are going to be on the layout in the correct location.

In Portland there is the Columbia Gorge MRRC that has some of the well known Gorge landmarks on their layout. There are to scale models of Portland Union Station, Crown Point’s Vista House and Multnomah Falls and lodge. The trackplan is freelanced though and not an actual model of the real line.

I don’t know if anyone has ever built them, but I’ve seen track plans featuring the Tehachapi Loop and the Horseshoe Curve.

Come to think of it, I thought former MR staffer Jim Kelly had an N scale layout based on Tehachapi.

At least one layout was built representing the Raton Pass. (And I seem to remember a pubished trackplan somewhere.)

John Armstrong published a Cajon Pass track plan back in the transition era, based on operations as they were then.

On my layout, I plan to have a distant view of Fujisan on the backdrop behind my main station - way, way behind! There are a couple of mountain ranges between.

You know, about a year ago I tried to start a thread to capture all of the Railroad landmarks and it died long before they all got into the list.

For the Pueblo & Arkansas River it would have to be their hanging bridge in the Royal Gorge - then bring forward to the Denver & Rio Grande, and even later the Denver & Rio Grande Western.

D&RGW also has Moffat Tunnel, Castle Gate, Grande Junction bridge over the Colorado, Gilluly loop, Noland Twin Tunnels, Dual Roundhouses in Salida,

WP - Keddie Wye,

GN - Cascade Tunnel, High Line Trestle,

AT&SF - Grand Canyon, dual bridges at Topock, Harvey House at Syracuse, Diablo Canyon,

etc.

I just recently got around to reading Great Model Railroads 2009, and it’s got a layout with Keddie Wye and another with Tehachapi Loop
