Anyone out there enjoy logging railroads?

Hi All.

I would like to invite anyone out there who likes logging railroads to join my new Yahoo Group, called homartinlumbercompany, which is named after my logging railroad that I’m building in HO scale. Just because the group has HO in the title, it doesn’t mean it is all about modeling, although that is a part of the group. Anyone who likes logging railroads, prototypical, or scaled down is willing to join. It doesn’t matter what age you are, or what scale you model. The purpose is to have fun talking about and modeling logging railroads!

You can also post photos in the Photos section of your logging layout, or prototypical photos of logging railroads.

If you manufactuer, distribuite, or review models, you are welcome to post your items for sale or reviews of models that are for sale. Here’s a example; Got some old Kadee log cars that you don’t want anymore, but don’t know where to sell them? No problem. Post them on the group, and there is surely someone who will want them. Any people who have logging memorabilia or photos of logging railroads are welcome to post what they have for sale.

I will also review new logging equipment models that I have and will get, such as the Bachmann Shay, Bachmann Climax, Rivarossi Heisler, Mantua 2-6-6-2T, ect.

So come and join, and have fun!

Thanks!

My HO scale layout plan includes a logging theme along with other industries.

Since our recent move I have had to go back to the drawing board to regroup, and I have a bit more space to work in now. My original plan was to include the pulp lumber operations that my grandfather operated many years ago in central Louisiana. Now that I am living in North Carolina I am opening up my options and considering logging operations in this area as well. Decisions, decisions…

The Pioneer Timber Company owned by my grandfather was operated near Pineville, Louisiana until the early 1970’s before he retired and sold the business to a local paper mill company. It operated pulp lumber to many paper mills in central Louisiana and had contracts with the L&N for shipping pulp lumber throughout Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. He also had an HO gauge layout that he operated in the 1950’s and 1960’s that represented the Rock Island RR with pulp operations as well. I have one remaining piece of rolling stock from his layout, a Rock Island pulp lumber car. I have it on display and cherish it more for its sentimental value.

Cheers,

Ryan

You mean there are other types of railroads? ? ? thanks for the tip.
