I finally got in but it has been very slow. Took me 4 minutes to get to the login screen. It still hasn’t remembered me. I had to go to Compuserve 6.0 instead of 7.0 because Comp said some web sites cannot be accessed because of proprietary reasons using Netscape 6.0. Comp 6.0 uses explorer which I have now but is really slow. I really do not under stand why I could get in before on Comp 7.0 and now I can not. If someone out there has an answer I would appreceiate it.
Aside from pages being rather slow-loading on a dial-up (which is what I have here at home), I have had no particular problems, and didn’t have any problem re-registering after I received the e-mail notification to do so.
I’m on a Mac here at home (still the best computers made [;)]) and on a Windows PC with high-speed access at work. The forum comes up/displays fine at both locations, albeit significantly slower here at home.
One thing I do notice is that the overall screen configuration is a bit strange, in that the text and graphics portions of the pages themselves display lower on the screen, so there’s more of that gray background field at the top of the page (above the various magazine logos) than I would expect. In other words, the “trains.com” title bar and magazine logos display lower on the screen than I would normally expect to see, and that rather valuable space at the top of the screen is wasted. No big deal, but it’s not what I would do myself if I was configuring a web page.
I use a Mac too, on hi speed cable. Things have been a bit slower this AM. I have had a fit with this new software because the browser I typically use, Safari, would not display the bar with font sizes, smileys, etc in the reply window. I tried four browsers and still can’t get the cut and paste for pictures to work yet. Right now I am using Netscape 7.2. I had tried Safari, Firefox Mozilla, and an older version of IE ( Microsoft stopped supporting IE for the Mac in Jan 2006). I have also had issues where something show up fine in the preview and then does not post correctly. I hope they get the issues ironed out.

I normally use Netscape 7, except for a few websites that will crash it regularly or not display properly (eBay, my bank, NWS radar). The “improvements” here are a nightmare for that browser now - incredibly slow loading (I have DSL, and it was loading far slower that a slow dial-up), every post/reply could only be read by using slide buttons on the side and bottom OF EACH POST ( and some didn’t have those, showing only a line or two of the longer post), posting pictures would show up in the preview, but disappeared in the final post.
Explorer 6 seems to handle it fine, so I’ll use that for here as well, which is a bummer, 'cause Exploder tends to grenade without warning - which is why I abandoned it for Netscape in the first place.
I should note that I’m on Netscape here at home (Mac on a dial-up) and use Explorer at the office (PC and DSL). No real problems at either location, other than the slow-loading for us guys too cheap to go with some sort of high-speed connection at home. [;)]
Heck, I don’t even have a cell phone yet–one of the last people on the planet to be without one. I just do not want or need to be connected to the world 24/7. Shows what a real dinosaur I am! [:D]
I got in fine using my daughters AOL. I can’t figure it out. I still cannot get in with Compuserve 6.0 or 7.0.
I just made a lengthy post with some photos. Hit the post button and Voila! - nothing.

No problems since I got in. I got in real easy as I did not have my customer number. Since the labels are attached with rubber cement, I always peel them off and throw them away. They had it set up to identify me from my info. Now trying to access your account is another story. I am recognized and logged in, it sends you back and you have to do a returning guest. ??? Sent them an email and haven’t checked to see if they have fixed it. Now, if you “check” you want an email reply to your posts and then try to turn it off. It will NOT turn off. So if you originally signed up for this feature, all subjects you posted during that time will keep coming to your email. This can flood your email [as the Cofffe Pot does]. I think it will settle down after a few days.
BTW: I have to hold down the control key to disable my cookie and popup blocker or I can not get the curser on the reply screen. So I remember to do that. Before, it was not necessary. I have thema dded as approved sites but does not matter.
I hope this gets cleared up soon. I really admire the people on this forum and they have been a great help to me as I do not know that much about this hobby. Thanks to the people here I have learned so much and put suggestions from this forum to good use I even soldered items and they worked. I probably would have just had the loop under the Christmas tree if it hadn’t been for the forum.
Are there other toy train forums out there in case this doesn’t get fixed? I can not use it the way it is.

I’m using Netscape 7.1 on dial up and it’s no problem up here in the great north. I did initially have a small problem when it asked me to re-register and I changed my id. It ended up showing I just joined - duh?
Explorer takes forever to do anything, don’t like it, don’t use it. I did download Netscape 8 but prefer 7.1 and have had no problem on any site - ebay included.

Chief : I think I figured out how to shut the e-mails off !! I went down below where it OPTIONS & then it says Forum O ptions, click where it says NO E-MAILS & then hit APPLY, then I went to my profile & hit UPDATE again !! Bingo, not getting them at all now !!

No problems here at all… I must be one of the lucky ones, I guess. BTW, I’m using Seamonkey (formerly Mozilla) and a really awful local dial-up ISP. The site was pretty slow to load the first time I visited, but now that it’s cached, it really isn’t too bad, with regards to speed.

Ralph, one way to locate your old posts is to go to this forum’s home page and click on the “My Forums” link under the Classic Toy Trains logo. That will load a page with all of the threads that you have contributed to.

By the luck of the Irish, I think I made it. I just returned from vacation. A few days ago I was throwing snowballs with my son up in Glacier National Park. When I got back to Broadus it was 102 degrees. My son took me by the hand and headed for the basement. We ran the train for awhile. Today it is cooler.
The new forum looks good and we are off and running!
I’m having trouble getting the quote feature to work correctly. I hit the quote button, and the quote I want appears in my post, but it appears with all the html. Not neat and clean like John’s example above. Explorer on a Mac. Jim
