Wondering if anyone has used their trees. I’ve seen some in person awhile back and they looked okay in the box, just wondering how they look when used and how they hold up.
In my opinion they look no nicer than Bachmann trees but cost more. I actually like Woodland Scenics trees over the Bachmann if that tells you anything but I’m starting to just build my own. For the price I wouldn’t use them but that’s just me.
I am not aware of anyone making a product that resembles the JTT “Wire Foliage Branches” – the color I like is the 95141 Light Green and 95080 Medium Green but there are other colors. These can either double as small bushes such as sumac or branches of trees. 100 branches for $8.99. This will save me tons of time in detailing a creek bank on my layout.
I have also bought some sets of JTT trees. They are pricey but I did find the realism to be at a higher level than Bachmann - they try harder to resemble specific species of tree, in my opinion. Interestingly they are made in Vietnam.
Dave, thanks for the run down. They have a couple of specific trees that I’d like to use on a Free-Mo module. I need a big oak tree and theirs looks good from the pictures but wanted to hear from someone with “hands on” experience. I plan to use SuperTrees for the smaller varieties along the right of way.
As someone who can see palm trees outside his window, some of those are pretty good, though the frond colors are a little too light. The JTT palm tree is a joke.
When I was an HO scaler, I bought a couple custom-made trees from a vendor at a train show who made palm fronds out of coated and painted bird feathers! I still have them but I’m in N scale now and they’re probably too large for my use. I’ll probably sell them.
