Anyone was able to run Atlas AEM-7 in DCC ?

I’ve got a couple of these very good engines. Trouble is they are quite small and I am not sure what kind of decoder would fit in there.
Was anyone successfull converting them to DCC ?

You could use a standard atlas 2 or 4 function decoder, but I’m not sure how to wire it for pantograph use.

Which one exactly ? As for pantographs, I don’t really need them.

There is a decoder made just for these. Ubfortunately, I can’t tell you who made it at the moment, but it plugs right in on the board under the air conditioner on the roof. If you check the Atlas DCC forum I’m sure you can find it. It was not nade by Atlas.

I got a digitrax DZ121 (or 123?) to fit under the air conditioner. Make sure you get the decoder with the NMRA plug.

You can use Train Control System’s TH150DP which is a plug 'n play decoder. There is a plug on the circuit board of the motor that this drops into. It is located underneath the box on the roof. 4 of the 5 AEM7s I have use this decoder. See the page below

Hope this helps!

That sounds like a solution !
Thanks !

I installed an Digitrax DN163PS in my Atlas AEM-7 this past week. It just plugs in. It is one of the easist decoder Indtalls. Just plug and play.

How do you put a decoder in an Alas Alco S-2???

Thesee engines are ho.
