I am going to an interview/test for Train Service for UP in Avondale, LA. I was wondering if anyone could share with me any pos/neg experiences with UP. I know a few things about Train Service through friends of friends but if anyone who does this could share with me I would be very grateful.

I have a friend who went to work for UP as a conductor about a year ago…They sent him to La. after training in Omaha, or Kansas ,anyway this was right after hurricane Katrina…Housing shortages everywhere,the closest he could get was a 2 hr drive from his yard,UP would not allow this,he tried to go someplace else and they told him he couldnt and was left with no option but to quit…Unless you have a travel trailer you can stay in I dont suggest you go to La…Im sure youve seen the mess thats still there…Good Luck,Danny
Actually I already live in Louisiana. I was just looking for a career change and heard more good things than bad about working for the railroads.

I suggest you apply and wait til they call you,Its a good job if you can get it…I was under the impression that you were going to relocate…If you already live there then certainly you wouldnt have the problem my friend had…I would apply for a train service job or something other than MOW,If you have a cdl you can apply for a truck driving job which aint bad…But if you apply and they call you for testing they can answer any questions you have…My son works for BNSF on a bridge gang and loves it…Good luck,Danny
