AnyRail Track Planning Software
Thanks David for a nice review. Indeed we try to keep the software as simple and intuitive as possible. At times this is challenging as the number of features increases. I’m happy to hear that our approach works well for you.
I was wondering. Can you print out the whole trackplan for layout when you are ready to build?
Based on this review and comments, I think I’ll give the trial version a try.
Thank you,
Jim Squires
I had the same experience as the others have mentioned. I downloaded the trial version and found it so easy to use that I reached the limit and purchased the package. I’m using Kato Unitrack and the finished real-world product exactly matches what I designed right down to the amount of extension required on the extendable track sections. I’m almost sad that I don’t need it so much anymore now that I have started laying rails to a plan I’m happy with.
I have been playing with AnyRail for about a month or so. I looked at trial software and read many reviews before deciding to buy AnyRail. It is very easy to learn and fun to play with. The price was worth taking a chance on the purchase. The lack of items in the n scale object libraries is my only disappointment. I’m happy with AnyRail and I’m sure I will learn a lot more as I work with it more.
I love this system, it is so easy to use. The track index covers every brand, and all track pieces, from flex to sectional, and all turnouts, and specialty sections. I wished I had this 30 years ago!
David said it all. AnyRail is an excellent product. I also purchased the full version after a short test run of the free demo.
I’ve tried a number of different track planning programs and
AnyRail beats them all (including Atlas’ RTS) hands down. Short learning curve, ease of use, and affordable. AnyRail has it all.
David has provided an excellent review of a product that sounds like it is working for him. His words have certainly motivated me to evaluate the demo of the software and seriously consider a purchase. I’ll report back with my experience if I decide to go with the AnyRail software.
Your review was excellent. I have downloaded the trial version and plan to try it out in the next couple of days.
It would certainly be nice if this product were available for Mac users as well as Windows users, especially considering that 20% of computer sales in the US now are sales of Macs. Any chance this product will also be made available for Mac users?
Having tried several other CAD reilroad planning packages, I find any rail superior to all of them and more economical in cost than most of them. Additionally, thry frequently update their track libraries as manufacturers introduce new pieces and accept user input to supply information on releases. David is exceptional in value offered and maintenance and upgrade of his product.
Thanks David, this as if it is right my alley. I have fiddled with a couple other software programs and find them wanting. I’ll follow up on this program with another review in the near future.
I am just getting started in model railroading and had not thought much about software. After reading the comments I will have to take a closer look. It might be just what I am looking for.
Admittedly, I am a self-proclaimed guru at the RTS software; however, after a brief stint with the trial version of AnyRail, I have to agree that is well worth the investment. I will have my full version before the weekend is out.
I have downloaded the free trial and had the same experience with AnyRail’s ease of use. I think it is the best product for anyone looking for the easiest-to-use solution to track planning. Another outstanding aspect is customer support. I asked a question in the forum and received an almost immediate response from the author (David H. above) This may change as the software gains in popularity and users but, at the moment it’s fantastic!
Excellent review, David. Thank you! I’m intrigued enough by the description of your experiences that I’m going to go take a look.
For people that have experience with other track planning software, be patient. One gets used to the way of working with other solutions, that they feel comfortable with the way the (older) software works. I have been working with various software solutions that each have some neat ways of working that are different, but with a little patience you will start to appriciate this product. I have to agree with David: the more you work with it and develop confidence, the more you are going to like it.
I have used AnyRail for several months. I agree with the favorable review. I especially like the features for handling flex track which, as David said, allow you to specify radius and angle for curves and length for straight. It will then tell you if you have bent or streched the section too much. It also allows you to specify easement for curves. Only downside I have found is drawing objects such as benchwork or outlining your train room. As best I can determine, you can’t draw a rectangle or curve, etc. You must specify individual points and set X,Y coordinates for each point to get the shape you need. But I have learned to work with it.
something to look at when plannind your layout
