Anything interesting about this box car?

I saw a Pan Am box car yesterday. Just wondering if there is any interesting story behind these box cars. Were they from Pan Am airlines? Or are they from some other Pan Am? They looked liek this:

Thanks!

This has been posted before. One of the NE rrs -(Guilford or B&M or somebody) bought the rights to the PanAm name and are using it on some boxcars to protect the rights.

A couple of weeks ago I saw one of these boxcar too. It really makes you stop and look at them. [;)]

So far I have only seen the one. They do catch your eye though. [:p]

very cool looking cars – (owned by Guilford )

Ya I have seen one or two going through southern Ontario in the last year.

They do stand out!

Guilford is a privately held company, so they don’t reveal much of what moves them to the public, however, there is speculation that they are (again) playing games with all the various paper companies they own (the B&M, the MEC, ST, Pan Am) and will re-brand Guilford Rail System as “Pan Am Railways” in an effort to change work rules, or escape taxes, or whatever.

First rule of Guilford – never pretend to understand what they’re up to.

I don’t care whatt they call it, but if they adapt that blue and black scheme, it will be a very nice change from that hideous brown and orange. I think it would make even a brand new dash9 (assuming Gilford ever got one) look old and crummy. A two year old could scribble a paint shceme that looks better than the brown and orange.

The man that owns Guilford bought, reserected and then killed (In my opinion) Pan-Am airlines. I understand that he painted the cars to promote his airline. The problem is he started painting the cars just before he canceled flights. I think the Pan-Am company still exists as an airplane maintanence company operating on the Pease Tradeport in Portsmouth NH.

I see these quite often, but then again, its on of the cars I’m looking for.

There is a short article on Guilford-Pan Am boxcars in the July 2005 Trains issue;pg 13.

i have also recently seen one of these box cars passing through the Wilkes-Barre, PA area…i also had to do a double take when i saw it… it was quite odd to see…it was on a South Bound NS train (travelling on trackage rights over RBM&N as well as CP trackage)
