The calendar was offered as a FREE download, but because the source of the download was given, it was construed as self promotion by the offering club.
The calendar also had a few sponsors in it that made the FREE part possible, this constituted advertising apparently.
I guess when someone refers to a particular brand of product on the forum questions, it should be construed as advertising and pulled also, seems like just about anything can’t be mentioned for fear of upsetting someone.
Never knew it would be so hard to GIVE something away for FREE.
Over 300 downloads in three days from other forums it was offered to, so I guess the expression “it could only happen in America may be true”.
How come no one that had “issues” or their “panties in a bunch” over this calendar has posted here defending their views??..unless these people have all the knowledge in the world and all of the skills involved in every aspect of model railroading…they shouldn’t have the right to complain about ANYTHING…[banghead]
Giving away free train calendars to people on a forum owned by a company that markets train calenders for sale is faux pas. Afterall, who other than a fool would buy something if they could get it for free? And we all know that there are no fools here. [:-^]
As usual, I enjoyed the photos on the calendar greatly; and as a longtime non-profit worker, know fundraisers often involve selling advertising, I didn’t see the problem with the ads, after all it was presenting a free calendar, not asking me to buy an ad on it.
It’s a good thing they removed the original thread, otherwise everyone on the forum would be getting their prescriptions filled at that pharmacy in Toowoomba. It’s good to know that Kalmbach dodged another legal bullet. [sigh]
