Thank you for writing to Model Railroader. I received your message but I am a little confused on what you are referring to. Can you specify it a little more or possibly send me the URL of the page that you are referring to?
Mark, sorry the thread got wonky on you, but I hope you understand. That’s one.
Two, I am happy to see you got a quick reply.
Third, it is clear to me that the gentleman did not understand you. You will have to explain yourself another way so that he understands it is a problem with a smilie icon on the forum…In fact, Bergie is the one who should be fielding the question since the internet/online component of Kalmbach Publishing is his purview.
(I am assuming this new post is about the email you sent wondering why ditto is misspelled?)
The smiley probably originates somewhere outside of Kalmbach’s purview, so I doubt there’s much they can do about it other than to pursue it with the web engine that runs the forum.
This probably isn’t real high on their “to do” list…[zzz]
So your thread asking Kalmbach to correct their misspelling of the word “ditto” got locked by Kalmbach because the word (when spelled incorrectly by Kalmbach) had a sexual connotation to somebody somewhere that no one had ever heard of before??
Iv’e never taken much notice, I just thought it was the American way of spelling Ditto where a letter gets dropped, ie; Modeling, Traveling etc, down under are Modelling, Travelling and still etc. dito! ditto!! dittto!!!
I think “Indie” started out as a film term–a contraction of the word “Independent”, meaning a film produced and financed out of the usual Hollywood studio realm. I know we use the term frequently on the Classic Film Forum that I belong to–for instance, the Coen Brothers, who won the Academy Award this year for “No Country for Old Men” originally started out as independent–or ‘Indie’ producers.
At least that’s the way I understand the term. But count me in with you on the sexual connotations of the ‘other’ word–that’s news to me, too!!
