APTA: Aging population will drive need for public transportation

Who knew that all those cup holders in cars were for our teeth?

This 69-yr-old boomer appreciates riding fare-free on Allegheny County Port Authority Transit (Pittsburgh, PA), paid for by the PA Lottery. Using light rail & bus saves me a lot of driving hassles.

Where I live in central Florida, if you don’t live within city limits you can forget about public transportation. But yet all of the adult 55+ communities are outside of the city. Many of my neighbors would rather not have to drive but the local governments leave them little to no choices at all.

Positive Transit Control

Nothing prevents private companies from building public transit if there is demand.

As things stands right now, Unless you live in a decent sized city, your chances of having good public transportation is slim to none. Our politicians wake up and smell the coffee, things will get worse before it gets better.

Jim Kerner—Even if you do live in a decent sized city, it doesn’t guarantee you a decent PT system. Kansas City has finally started a light rail system–all 2 miles of it. The extensions were voted down by a highly vocal NIMBY group that didn’t want to help pay for something that THEY would never, ever dream of using. The bus system stinks. NO commuter rail. The only thing we have going for us is a decent Interstate system that continues to grow and clog more every year.
