Are Mac users not allowed here?

This forum is NOT compatible with Mac OS X. Even If I know how to post pictures (after working with computers for 20 years) I can’t do it. This is only one of many problems I have with the new (improved?) forum. Remember, Mac users are model railroaders too. Here is a picture just to show what I mean, this is in fact posted as a normal [ img ] and [ /img] line but the forum can’t handle it! I have learned lots of things since I started in this hobby, things that I can learn other people. I read Model railroader from time to time. Is that worth anything? If I don’t get any good answers to this I will leave the forum. It seems that this is Model railroaders plan so… My questions is, are Mac users not allowed here?

Mac users are always welcome. After all this is HELP STAMP OUT SEGREGATION WEEK!!! TAKE A MAC USER HOME TO DINNER!!!

(Giggle! Giggle! HA! HA!)

I’m having the same problem, I also work with computers, and I’m using a PC. So I can’t figure out what the heck is the issue with the pictures. The strange thing is that they show up fine in the preview, just not the actual post. Oh, and I’m sure you know, but your browser would have more to do with it than your OS. I know IE is no longer made for the Mac, but I’m pretty sure Firefox and probably Opera are. you could see if that makes a difference. However, the picture issue is a simple code that is included in the page and should have nothing to do with the browser anyway. Why it works for some and not others is a mystery… Randy

thats odd, we use OSX at work and i can post pics fine etc… weird…[%-)]

I tried isolating your photo URL, and it works in the preview pane, let’s see if it works in the message. By this I mean I placed the URL on a separate line, not within your text. I didn’t edit the URL, the IMG tags came out as they should.

Bob, thats why it works for me! i always post my photo’s url on their own line!

What OS version do you have and what browser are you using? And as you can see, I can’t even quote properly.

I am a Mac user (OS X 10.4.7) and also have this problem of posting photos, It was much easier in the past. I still haven’t got to grips on solving this.
Cheers,

What Mac are you using? I’m using a iMac G5.

We use 10.4.7 ( i think) and I can quote and post pics fine… it’s rather odd… it’s like its selective…also we have G4 computers.

could it be that the mac computers where I work are just slaves to a windows Server? which makes them work or what? [%-)]

It does not work to post pictures with Safari, Explorer or Firefox on Mac, but Netscape 7.2 works. What can we learn by that?

that, I don’t have an answer for…

I use Mac OS X. It doesn’t work for me to post a pic or link, even on a new line. Electro, Firefox doesn’t work? I heard it does. Hm. Anyways, I’d hate to have to switch to Firefox just because of one forum.

“The strange thing is that they show up fine in the preview, just not the actual post.” I have the same problem and use Safari on my Mac. There goes any more posting of my photos on this board.

I’ve noticed that it mangles quotes, doesn’t display correctly in preview, and just seems hostile to all but certain browsers. Since this is being done via a remote server, the issues must lay with the remote system. My browser is only an interface to the system. Probably yet another problem that can be traced to IE.

I found that using Firefox I have to add the URL tags to get a link posted properly. Haven’t tried images. But I am not surprised, a lot of software is developed with IE as the browser and only partially works with other browsers.

If you want some fun try browsing MicroSoft’s site with browsers other than IE.[:o)]

Enjoy

posted from mac OS 10.3.9 using firefox 1.5.0.2 . i entered the [ img ] and [ /img ] by hand

safari is a nice browser , but if you want compatibility with almost all websites then firefox is better . actually after using firefox on my pc for a while i loaded it on my mac and now it’s the only browser i use . also switched to thunderbird for email since i hate the apple mail program , but that’s another issue entirely [:P]

to those of you complaining about not being able to post pictures here with a mac … you’re complaining to the wrong people , i doubt very much there is anything that Bergie or others at trains.com can do about this problem . it needs to be fixed by either the people who wrote the forum software (well i guess complaining here does have a point , Bergie could pass along info on the problem) , or by apple making changes to safari

so there’s the solution , i’d hate to see anyone leave over this issue

I have tried Firefox 1.5.0.4 and it does not work, can’t even post text with it. I do not think this problem is a browser related problem because I’m a member at many forums and everything works. Even the old railroader forum worked with Mac’s. The thing that needs to be done here is an big update of the forum code. But the question is, will Model Railroader do it? Or are Mac users a minority they can live without? We can’t tell Apple to change Safari and other things like that just to get this stupid forum work. That’s the wrong way to solve problems. What do you guys do when your car stops because the engine is broken? Do you change the tires or rebuild the road?

I don’t know about the picture problem, but as to the car problem our government will just build another tunnel in Boston for several billion $ that leaks and the roof falls down. That will fix the car?

Don’t leave because of the pictures. We need input from every one. TARP

reposted using firefox 1.5.0.5
perhaps there was a problem with 1.5.0.4 ?
perhaps the issue is elsewhere in your system ?
are you running 10.4.x ? i don’t have that so i can’t check it out . seems odd to me that the OS version would cause this problem . also i’m using a G4 but again i think that shouldn’t be an issue

when you type [ img ] in a message and then go look at the preview do you see [ img ] or do you see < img > ? i wonder if it’s a font issue .

on the menu bar at the top of the screen there should be a small flag (which indicates which keyboard layout and language you have selected) , is yours showing the U.S. flag (stars and stripes) or something else ? if not , try clicking on the flag and choosing the Open International item and clicking the box next to the U.S. flag , then under the flag menu select the US flag and try posting again (it’s possible that if you’re using something like British layout it’s different than the US layout)

electrolove … don’t quit here even if we can’t figure this out , since you’re from sweden your point of view is different from most people here and i , for one , would miss your input

good luck !
