The Walther’s website is not helpful. I’d actually like to know first if there is a parts breakdown drawing of the 2-8-8-2, so that I can even identify the part numbers I’m looking for. Does such a thing exist?
Yes they’re in the very back of the manual that came with the locomotive.
The part numbers will not do you any good, because there are no service parts available, except from locomotives returned under warranty, which are replaced with new. Like most companies that source models in China, Walthers cannot get spare parts due to China’s export regulations.
Duh! I didn’t even bother to look there. [:I]
Really? I didn’t know that. I wonder why then you can get spare parts for Atlas locos, which are also made in China.
That is not entirely true. No there is no stockpile of spare parts readily available the repair department has a number of donors or cannibalized locomotives that they use for parts. If they have an extra what ever it is your looking for they are pretty accommodating and will usually send you out the part.
What parts are you looking for exactly they may be available after market.
Not being near the drawing at the moment I don’t know if it’s one part or many, or if it can even be gotten without the whole front drivetrain, but I need the cylider assembly from the front drivetrain.
Sounds like an expensive ouch! maybe a drop perhaps, it’s worth a shot but if it were me (god help me if I ever break any of mine they’ll hear me screaming three countys away) I owuld just ship it back to Walthers for repair.
Don’t know if they’d consider it worth repairing. Really more of a scratch than a break. If it’s not too hard a job to take apart and install the new part I’d try it myself if I can get the part.
