Are the 2-6-6-4 A1's by BLI bllasted properly?

I recently bought an A1 and for the most part it runs very well but on occasion the front end will derail. I’ve noticed when putting it back on the rails the front engine is much lighter then the rear engine and wonder if this maybe the problem. My mainline has a minimum of 24" inch curves, though super elevated don’t have any dips.

Anyone else having this problem?

FM, if it turns out that you aren’t getting answers that make the problem go away, would you consider joining the BLI website forum and asking there? You are likely to get some help.

I dint know about BLI but I found a piece of packing sponge atop the pilot on my Bachmann 2-6-6-2. This helped a whole bunch. [:-^]

I hope you get it fixed.

I was going to suggest the same thing. In my BLI Y6B loco I had a lot of derailments. there was a piece of black foam under the front part of the boiler that had to be removed. Look for the foam to be stuffed between the boiler and front truck if it’s there.

Here’s a link to the Y6B’s technican bulletin which mentions the foam with a picture. Maybe you’ll get lucky and it will be that simple.

My BLI Class A runs fine and has never derailed. And it a very strong puller having pulled 75 cars up a 2% helix on the layout of a friend. BUT, I have never tried to run it on 24" radius curves, my minimum, and the minimum on my friend’s layout, is 36" radius.

Respectfully if I might add, the proper N&W terminology is simply “Class A” as they did not have different versions of this wheel arrangement and and they never identified any sub classes with these locos.
