I remember as a boy watching an American Flyer 1/2 hour model train Tv show every week that was terrific. I was about 12 then, so that would make the show to be on about 1951. Does anyone remember that show?
Also, are there any such TV shows ANYWHERE being broadcasted today? With Cable TV now having 999 channels, you would think that the “World’s Greatest Hobby” would rate ONE channel???!!![:p]

DIY has had a series on from time to time that was good and every once in a while their Radio Controlled Hobby show does a piece. RFD tv channel has a few train shows in general and I believe it is Trackside that is real good(Prototype).

There is a model railroad show on some PBS stations. It is produced in Milwaukee, probably with some input and support from the boys at Kalmbach. Our local PBS station here in Kansas City does not carry the shwo so I have never seen it. I did catch the closing minutes of it once when the Topeka PBS outlet’s signal was coming in one Saturday morning. Yes, I still watch TV using an antena. No cable or dish for me.
ebriley your not alone. I also only have an antenna for my viewing pleasure. I will never have cable or a dish in my house. When I look at my daughters bill for cable I just shake my head at what they charge to watch tv these days. I also have noticed in the past several years more and more antennas being put on homes that once were cable. I used to watch a show on PBS also on sat mornings with (Lynn Wescott <–not sure of spelling) and it was great. Sure wish it or something new would make a come back. I think it was either by or sponsored by Kalmbach.
I have cable because it’s cheaper. When I wanted to switch from dialup a couple of yeras ago, DSL was not available where I live. Cable internet was the only option. But cable internet by itself was $15 more than the basic cable package plus internet. So we got the basic package.
The PBS stations here occaisionally rerun some of the shows. The community college channel also runs them occaisionally.

RFD-TV has a weekly show called “I Love Toy Trains” which features layouts, usually Lionel or American Flyer O gauge. RFD-TV is available on DirectTV Channel 379, Dish Network Channel 9409, Mediacom Channel 78, or National Cable.
The “I Love Trains” show is repeated several times each week at various times of day, including the wee hours of the morning. They also have some great prototype railroad shows including Trackside and Trains and Locomotives weekly.

I have caught the “Trackside” show on PBS here in the Cleveland area and have enjoyed it very much. It’s a nice mix of model layouts and prototype locomotives and excursions. Until I watched the show a month or so ago, I didn’t realize that they were/are still running steam locomotives down in Cuba (Although there is a push now to move over to diesel.) I believe the series came out in 2001 and is supported by Kalmbach, Kato, MR, and others.

Tracks Ahead is on PBS-West on Bell Expressview in Canada on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday’s at 5 pm est.
I have never seen RFD here in Massachusetts ( Algonquin Indian name for “Land of many hills”). I do get Cable, and because I cannot get DSL because of noisy old copper phone lines, when Cable came, I was able to get hispeed (3mB) and many more channels with great shows (not the MTV and other crap). I had antenna for years, but I got tired of replacing antennas every 3 or 4 winters because of the severe winters here in the high hills of central Mass. And with cable, I can receive DIY channel. I am going to contact Charter Cable, the Cable company that services central Mass area and many other parts of the U.S., to see if they will add RFD TV.
I am surprised that no one remembered the old American Flyer TV show way back in the early 50’s. They had great layouts. I am 65 , some of you guys are older than me, so you must have seen the show as it was carried my one of the major networks at that time, NBC, ABC, or CBS.

I agree. Discovery has a channel all on airplanes called WINGS. Why not one called TRAINS?!
Ok Paul, lets get on our Cable network “administrators” and demand equal rights. We have car channels, boat channels, fishing and hunting channels, RF model plane channels, several gardening channels, come ON cable channels, we have millions of model railroaders here in the U.S. and Canada, lets get the show on the road !!!

By the way, I have seen some of the Lionel and American Flyer TV shows from ca 1950 for sale cheap on home video. $2-$5…not from brand name video companies. At “Dollar” stores, etc.
I am surprised that Pentrex has not picked up on those shows and made some DVD’s for sale. Checking out the web doing a search under “Model RR TV shows”, I was able to find some of the TV programs listed by others in this thread. Now if only I can get our local Cable company (are you listening Charter.com?) to add these channels, life would be even better, especially during these long cold winter days here in New England!![^]
