They sure look like um I wish I had a train line and 85,000 to blow and these would be mine LoL. Heres the link… http://railforce.com/sales-GP8-locomotive.htm Anyone know if they are former Missouri Pacific units, they sure look like them with the dark blue and white stripes on the nose. If not anyone know any history about them
The site mentions that they were rebuilt by Omnitrax, and a quick look at their roster shows GP8’s of ex-Illinois Central origin only. GP8/GP10/GP11 are designations used by various Paducah rebuilds, which rules out MP.
I cant get your url to work or go directly to the sight ,but if you ve heard of South Orient that ran in Tx. over the old Santa Fe’s SO( thus their name) they might be from there…There paint scheme looked just like MoPac’s only w/out the buzz saw or Eagle…Danny
I’ve seen shots of them before, they’re confimed non-MOP’s. They look like dead ringers, but Mo-Pac never (or hardly ever) painted them black below the frame line.
These are definately ex South Orient units. If I recall, these are actually old GP7s from Chicago & Northwestern. Omnitrax, who owned South Orient, purchased a fair amount of ex C&NW GP7s after the UP took over C&NW in 1995. I think a good majority of these units can trace their lineage to the ROCK. The MOPAC did rebuild some Geep 7s, but most were traded in on GP38-2s, and GP15s, and wouldn’t of lasted this long.
