Are trains exempt from that pesky 10th commandment?

When I was a kid and had Lionel frieght trains, I wanted the kid next door’s passenger set.

Have you noticed that there seems to be more interest in passenget trains in the O gauge crowd. If you mention passenger trains in the HO crowd they look at you funny.

That is kinda funny as I like passenger trains more than frieght. I’ve got three passenger trains and two decent sized freights. Now, I just need to get my passenger trains loaded with people. Me and Amtrak…

I too keep searching for a Broadway Limited set to go with my K-4, but my first love is box cars.

I have always been more attracted to passenger than freight. As a kid maybe it was all those lights, who knows. Postwar freight sets looked like a mix of box, hopper, flat cars and caboose. Passenger trains seemed like they belonged together. Anyway I managed to get my hands on all the O-27 types and two of the bigger Aluminum sets. Of course when the subway cars showed up I had to grab some of those.[:D]

I run much more passenger trains than freight. My son, John likes freight trains, so I make up some long ones for him. Of course, long on our teeny layout is 12 cars. The kid also enjoys making up a good coal drag.

I’ve always been a “passenger junkie”, and coveted my freinds AF passenger set as a kid. The passenger steam trains I watched in the late 1940’s were more exciting to watch than slow moving freights. There is a “mystery” about them…where are they going, etc.? It’s easier for you to imagine yourself riding on one. Joe

I used not to like passenger cars because my favorite pastime was shunting and in HO bogied vehicles don’t shunt all that well but O gauge changed my mind because there’s more to see, so now I want to start modifying my carriages so the roofs hinge open and they have full interiors and I mean right down to place settings in the dining cars! Its a MUST that we be able to put little people in and take them out at stations.

My Hogwarts set will be the first to get the full treatment. I would have done my Disney ‘collectible’ set but my kids bought it as an ‘investment’ - bless them - so I won’t play with it.

IF Lionel ever makes the 4 wheeler English wagons I want, I’ll have to repaint them as Private Owner wagons and then I’ll probably try and make as many as I can because I’m in the process of redesigning the knuckle couplers so they work much better and make shunting a reality again.

However I’m also looking forward to doing coach interiors and if it works out nicely as hoped for, I’ll probably try and build a few sets of different eras as I particularly like the GWR clerestory short wheelbase carriages and of course the gorgeous GWR Pullmans and the teak Gresley coaches the LNER used.

I’d like to build a boat train, a steamship that trains are driven onto for the Channel crossing, that allows me to run the Orient Express which will be next on my list.

I have 4 passenger sets , 8 Santa fe cars, 6 B&O passenger cars, 6 southern Passenger cars, and then 2 standard gauge passenger cars.

I also have a lot of freight cars but my real love is Passenger cars and always has been even when I was young and had HO. I prefered passenger cars.

Hmmm… passenger sets - lets see, I have a set of 4 pw 2400 series cars, a 4 car NYC set, a large Sf set, a 4 car AmTrack set, a 2 car Thomas set, and a 4 car Pennsy set.

Freight cars have more play value. But I enjoy turning the power up and just watching them run. No prototypical operations, no switching. Roundy round is fine for me.

I have lots of freight and passenger cars… so I wouldn’t know… [%-)]

I have:
6 car set C&O Streamlined Passenger cars, for my C&O Streamlined Yellowbelly Hudson
7 car set B&O Madisons for my B&O Mikado
Complete Napa Valley Wine Train
2400 series Postwar Passenger cars (4 cars)
and 5 Christmas Passenger cars

My favorites are:
2400 Postwar
Streamlined C&O
Christmas (the colors are really vibrant and they look awesome behind the Christmas General)

If your interested in passenger consists check out the K-Line B&O and military four car sets. Lionel has done a good job carrying on the K-Line details, the price is good for the detail, and they are more the traditional ,not O27, size rather than full scale.

Yes, they are exempt. As a trolley-ist, I’ve been all about the passenger for the longest time, but have been messing around with freight motors and use the #520 to pull a long, but light (flats and gons) drag. Now, I am researching British frieght practices to work with Thomas and friends. I’m inspired by Thor’s plans!

Never mind trains. I’m still struggling with the part about my neighbor’s wife! [}:)]
