It seems that lately I’m buying more automobiles than train models. I always bought cars from Busch etc, but they are rather pricey, and largely european. Then along comes Malibu, LifeLike (better than the orig LL) and Wallymart - now Athern, Atlas, and Riko are making some realy great detailed autos at affordable prices. I seem to be buying 5 or 10 cars to 1 RR item - how about you? [?]
Now that you mention it, Yes![:D]
Short answer-- no.
You betcha , been filling up those parking lots all over the layout. Just got three of those Walk in Vans by Atlas , nice model. I just keep buying all those neat vehicles that are coming out after all these years. next for me are some of those Riverpoint trucks.
I’ve accumulated ~30 for my contemporary era, and I had roughly that same number when I was still modeling 1970-era (pre-Chessie) B&O. One of the things that pushed me into a more modern era was the auto-racks. The ones that existed in 1969-70 were all open, so I’d have had to spend a bundle on scale vehicles to populate those things!
Since money’s been tight as of late, I focus on buying only those vehicles that I really want that may become hard to find in a few years, such as the GM “fishbowl” bus by Busch, and variations of the Mack ‘R’ series truck by Athearn.
Yep, me too. It seems like it goes in spurts, I’ll buy intermodal stuff for a couple of months, then locomotives, then switches, auto’s, rolling stock, scenery material, buildings…
I like the good stuff. Busch, Wiking. But I buy it on sale. I do have some wally world specials too. I have Waaaayyyy too many cars for my layout. I’ve probably got 100 cars/trucks. I only need about 12 or so.
I’ve pretty much got the 60’s populated with cars, so now I’m working on the 30’s for my dual-era layout. I’ve stopped buying, though, as my pile of Jordan vehicle kits has gotten too high, and I really need to stop buying and start building.
Are we all just compulsive buyers? Right now, I can’t put any more rolling stock on my layout, and there’s a lot in boxes down below as well. So, I can buy some of the great cars that have been coming out lately. They don’t take up space on a siding, and, unlike the real world, there’s always plenty of free parking in Moose Bay.
I dunno. I have around 25 autos, to 6 locos and around 75 frieght cars. Which is all overkill for a 4x8.
OMYGAW, YES!
Couldn’t believe it–the Yuba River Sub is about 24x24 of 1940’s mountain railroading, I’ve got about a total of 6 feet of highway, Athearn, WS and a couple of other manufacturers come out with a whole bunch of correct cars for the period ('20’s through late '40’s) and the next thing I know my two lane 1940’s mountain pot-holed highway looks like rush hour in 1990’s Anahiem! I even forgot that I’d bought a 4-pack of '36 Fords and went out and bought a second batch–same darn COLORS!
Hey, gang, this is a little two-lane winding mountain highway connecting little towns in the upper reaches of the Northern California Sierra’s. At this time, the highways were recently paved over by the CCC during the Depression off of STAGECOACH trails, LOL! A ‘passing’ lane meant that you could swerve over into incoming traffic to pass Grandpa in his Model A if your own model T could make it before the next curve (or sheer cliff). So WHY do I seem to have half of Henry Ford’s production line cramming my carefully chopped up Busch highway? Darned if I know, LOL! Actually, you wouldn’t believe the cramming in the RR station parking lots. You’d think that everyone in Nevada and Sierra Counties was there to ride the train (which is not a bad thing, come to think of it).

I have all the loco’s and rolling stock I need for my ONR based layout so all I buy now is things that stand out, like Athearn’s new Anniversary boxcar or their new Breast Cancer car that will be out soon. Cars and trucks though I buy all the time, I can’t help it, lol. I’ve got a nice car show/ cruze in scene now thanks to all the new releases. I’ve probably accumulated over 200 cars, pickups and transport trucks to populate my layout. My club held our annual show this past weekend and I picked up a few of the 2 versions of the FED EX Sprinter vans and a bunch of U Haul trucks for a rental truck display for the layout. The only train item I bought was a CN snowplow that I’ve been looking for.
I didn’t realize “breasts” was a dirty word. Athearn is donating a portion of all sales of the Breast Cancer car to help with breast cancer research. I hope everybody buys at least one of them to support the fight. Here is a picture of it…
Yes, I have been buying quite a few. That may be because they’re about the only thing for my layout that I don’t have to go out of town for.
No, actually not.
Let’s see I own a green pickup truck from Athearn, one horsch green car, a lincoln car and a apple delivery truck. A police car, Railroad express panel van etc
Trucks? 4 flatbeds with mack b tractors, 4 of the A&P Tt’S, One tow truck, a couple unmarked box trailers and several old BB Athearn TOFC’s from the B&O. One semi coal dump trailer and another B mack for it.
That’s it.
I DO have purchases planned to fill out the railroad as I identify a need for it. I bought a tanker last month for the oil depot.
There is a frigging BUS that walthers has had announced two lifetimes ago and STILL not in the &^%$ Hobby shop.
Heh heh heh. My situation exactly. Christmas comes once a month, when my monthly toy order arrives.[8D]
Help me. I keep ordering train stuff, and I can’t stop!.
