Are you going to the MFMR Convention ?

A friend (from New Hampshire) and I are planning to take VIA Rail’s The Ocean train from Montreal to Halifax to attend the Maritime Federation of Model Railroaders Convention. I’m not sure if we’re looking forward more to the trip on the train, or to the convention. [8)]

Is anyone else on this forum going to attend ?

Neither of us have been to Halifax before, so can anyone suggest things we should see or avoid ?

Mailing in my registration today, haven’t missed one in 20+ years!

As to Halifax, it’s a great port city with lots of things to do in the downtown area with great boardwalks along the waterfront. Since you are traveling by train, I assume you will not have a car to get around, so anything much else I could offer wouldn’t be of much use to you.

The actual event is being held in the Marine Museum of the Atlantic, which in itself is a great place to visit. It has quite a few artifacts from the ill-fated Titanic, as most of the survivors and those who didn’t make it were brought to Halifax after the disaster.

Outside the museum is a floating reminder of WWII - a restored Canadian Corvette warship that you can tour. If you’re lucky you might even see “Theodore the Tugboat”, a full sized tug from the children’s TV show!

See you there!

I’ll be there, running the RPM room and conducting a clinic on airbrushing.

Bob,

We plan to rent a car to make getting around a bit easier. We’ll be sending in our registration forms, and making hotel and train reservations by the end of the month. I can hardly wait ! I’ve never been on an over-night train before, so this is a real experience. [:D]

B-Dubya,

The airbrushing clinic is one of the clinics we’re planning to attend. I am getting near the point where I’ll need to know how to handle an airbrush. So, I guess we’ll see you for sure ! [:)]

I’ll be easy to pick out of the crowd. You’ll probably hear me before you see me. [:I]

A-yup, he will.

If you are interested in railfanning check out this http://www.geocities.com/ricandbeth/ Also useful for the ‘travelling in by train’ portion of your trip.

I will be there too. I have been trying to get some progress done on my models that sat in the RPM room last year so it looks like I did something. A few things added so far.

Well, now I’ve gone and done it ! Made the reservations for train and hotel Saturday afternoon, and I’ve sent in my money for the convention registration. So I guess I have no choice but to attend. Oh, woe is me ! [swg]

Actually, I can hardly wait ! Hope to see you all there !

See you there! Be sure to take in some of the layout tours that are supposed to be held on Sunday - Don Shouldice’s HOn30 layout and Keith Mader’s HO scale one. I had articles in “Model Railroading” on both of them.

Yes, we (my friend, Bill, and I) do plan to try to get to as many of the open houses as possible.

I’m not sure which I’m more excited about – the train ride or the convention ! [8)][8)][8)]
