Its nice to see geep 30’s in service and not just a road slugs
Doesn’t the -7 in B-23-7 mean they were built in the 70’s? So they are going to OLDER locomotives? That’s right, they are EMD’s, the magic builder, at least from that time frame. I’m only giving this a 3 because they said when the EMD’s were built but not when the GE’s were built.
The GP30 is my favorite EMD locomotive. Glad to hear that these have been put back in service. The paint job looks great.
GP35’s were not very reliable. Too many stages of transition.
The dash 7 had to do with the generation of micro-processors onboard if I am correct. And I assure you, they were GEs.
Agreed. The style and reliability of the rebuilt GP 30 should last a long time. Can’t wait to see them on the road!
It is a nice paint job, just hope they run as well as they look.
The -7 does indeed refer to the year the model line was introduced… 197(7)–which means that the “new” locomotives are at least 14 years older than the “old” locomotives… and possibly as much as 21 years older. (The GP30 was built in 1962-1963 and the B23-7 was built from 1977 to 1984.)
The -7 means the line was introduced in 1977. The B23’s would have been from that time period, late 70’s/early 80’s. Thirty plus years is not too shabby, especially for a GE.
The GP30’s may have been rebuilt at some point, keeping the same carbody, so they are not really a 50 year old locomotive.
That GP30 looks sharp in the A&O paint scheme. The GP30 is one of my favorite EMD models. That beetle brow still catches my eye. One of these days I may have to make a trip down there check out the A&O
