Cripes this is the first I’ve heard of this one. At least nobody was hurt.
I live in Tennessee which is one state north, and there has been NO news at all about it up here. My wife drove trough Alabama over the weekend on I-65 and heard nothing about it either.

I need to amend my earlier post. There is a story about it on the Channel 6 News website. Do a search for Channel 6 News Birmingham, then scroll down through the news stories and you’ll see it. There was no one hurt and no homes damaged. They are waiting for the fire to burn itself out. It may have by now.

This is not near as bad as another wreck. No one was injured. Wreck in the middle of nowhere. Only 1 family evacuated. And they are back home. Spill contained Yes expensive. Genessee and Wyoming had management who could communicate with the press. NTSB will investigate. And everyone will forget this in a week. Were the beavers burnt out? Were they evacuated?
I am sure that land-management people in Alabama are more understanding than some in Pennsylvania. A few months ago, I learned that the man who owned a certain tract of land was accused of constructing two dams without a permit; and he wrote a lengthy response explaining that the beavers who had constructed them were unaware of the need to obtain a permit before beginning the work.

Au contraire. Beavers usually get plenty of thought by the railroads, but it’s mostly on how to get rid of them…

Getting back to the article, the comments are awesome to read. Rail is the “worst” way to ship crude? Even worse than having a human bucket brigade? And the people that think that a pipeline would never have a leak or accident… must be nice to live in the fantasy world that only exists in their head.
Oh damn! On the serious side. I think this wrecks claim to fame will be that it was a crude oil shipment. As I said above it will get ignored by the mainstream media after a few days. Rgds IGN

Do the beaves get a royality every time humans name a city, road or street ‘Beaver Dam’?
Or churches? I served a church named “Mt. Olive,” but it was known locally as “Beaver Dam.” Perhaps the beavers forewent the royalty in this case.

Uh oh; the subject flared up again. Last September I attended worship in a church named “Beaver Creek.” Since it was organized about 230 years ago, none of the original members was present to be asked concerning any royalty paid to the beavers.
