When designing layouts, do you use any cad programs, and if so which one do you like the most.
ps. this is a great idea.

The show is a great idea, the variety of topics guarantees something of interest for every viewer. The sock over the shop vac hose is a good idea.
Great segment! Re the sock tip, this also works with a ladies stocking held over the end of the vac. Also good for picking up loose beads, jewellery findings etc or anything small you don’t want to lose to the yukky vac bag…I thought twice before retrieving an N scale volkswagen from the bag!
This series is a nice addition to the line of videos. It will be nice to have a forum to ask questions and to see the answers to ther people’s questions. An A+ to whoever thought this one up.
This ask MRVP segment is really good. As of right now, im asking myself where is Drews Trackside Adventures? I really want to see the FEC action with the new GEVOs.
Well done. I like the sock in the vac idea and will use it on my layout and the club layout. Keep up the good work.
I use AnyRail5 when doing track planning. I don’t know what they use.
It is always nice to visit your website and find new videos and ideas. thank you!!
Thank you for answering questions. I have a question about the manual turnout controls Tony Koester uses or used on his NKP layout. I think they are based on slide switches mounted right at the headblocks. I have never seen close up pictures of those nor instructions of how to build those. Maybe something for an other video or article in MR or MRP?
hello, this is Michael McCoy from Geneva ,iowa was wondering how many 12 volt bulbs you can use with a 12 volt ac adapter ,don’t want to put to many on one outlet what would be a safe number not to overload.thank you
David, Fantastic idea with your new series. Congratulations on another first for the hobby! It will be a great supplement to MR magazine. I miss Jim Hediger’d “Workshop” and Marty McGuirk’s “Ask Paint Shop”, back when the magazine was much thicker… Anyway, stand by for a mountain of questions, now. You may have opened Pandora’s box. Reviewing the questions prior to my response, I noticed a few I could answer myself. Will this be an “open forum”, or just wisdom from on high from our Great and All Knowing Gurus?
This new series is a great idea! I think that Kent with his sock on a vacuum idea should be mugged! Do you have one for him?
David-
Great idea for a Q and A segment!!! I do have a question to add; I am building a corn syrup transfer facility and I recently watched Andy Sperandeo talk about how he made his for the Bay Junction RR. So, where can I find more about this project, and where can I find the kits and cars that Andy used to make his version?
Thanks, -Owen Toal, Yardmaster, Amherst Belt Lines.
P.S- Can’t wait to see you at the Amherst Railway Show!!
Okay, I have to ask, just in case it hasn’t been brought up before now: just why is Cody referred to as “Two-Brat Grivno” in a recent video? Sounds like there’s some awesome back story there…
Ask MRVP
3 things… 1.Layout, loco and freight car maintenance. Rehab my railroad was good but what about regular maintenance we should be doing to keep everything working OK on our layout? Cleaning, refurbishment, checking wear and replacement to keep everything running fine?
Also… 2. DCC CV programming etc. I know Dana has done part of this but can we have a full of CV’s, what they do, how to change them etc please?
Lastly… 3. Back in MRR history there used to be ‘Electronics Symposium’ can we have something similar? For example, occupancy detection, chasing signboard lights etc. I know a lot of this can be bought off the shelf but it would be good to know how to make this stuff.
MRVP is excellent btw. Best thing to have happened to MRR.
What is in MR’s workshop and workbench areas? We see glimpses now and then, but I would enjoy a video tour or survey of your work tops, tools and material storage areas. They way different modelers organize work areas, store tools and materials is always educational. Keep up the great work!
Great 1st Ask MRVP episode. Keep up the great work guys! Love the out-takes.
Another great show … You guys are the best … Thank You!
You showed the Walthers Pella depot on the MR&T. It must be the factory assembled depot because the ends of the building are reversed. The baggage room end is on the waiting room end. It is my hometown depot. A great feature would be how to fix the error and cut out the ends and reverse them.
The new “Ask MRVP” is a really great idea! There’s a ton of information embedded in the comments by viewers, wether it’s a question that “lights your bulb” with an idea that’s been waiting for a solution, or a tip (simple or otherwise) that fits right in with what one is doing. David, your usual great on-camera style is excellent, and I’m looking forward to this new series.
P.S. One of my all-time favorite tips from you, David, was also one of the simplest; coffee stirrers, to run wires through the strata of a layout. A “why didn’t I think of that??” thing…
