I am converting n scale dc to dcc on older atlas/kato engines. I know they have
replacement decoders that replace the split ends but at 40.00 a piece too expensive. I want to use a genenric . My questions are: 1 I was going to use a circuit board to replace the head light board in two strips were can I get this. 2.
I am going to use a 3mm led what resister do I use.

David the roller test stand is similar of Marklin #78151 at page 282 of the 2015/2016 catalog up to 8 driving axels including for the “big Boy” and available at Marklin dealers in the USA.
David and company. Based on your excellent Olympia Logging series, I purchased a Bachmann On30 Climax Locomotive with the intention of adding DCC per your video segment on the subject. But running the loco just under DC, I find that it has a pretty loud drive train. I’m sure that some good lubrication would help, but I’m hesitant to just dive in. Would it be possible for you to do a segment on doing a lubricating tune up on the Climax locomotive you used on the Olympia? That would certainly be helpful to me and hopefully educational to all. I know Cody did a recent video that included lubricating an HO diesel locomotive, but these geared locomotives have so many more parts, a video specifically about them would be great. Thanks.
David. There is also this roller stand made with Marklin track called Rail Stand from Taiwan. http://www.trains.com.tw/railstand.asp
I’m curious to know the following: I subscribe to a number of the Kalmbach publications and why is it the magazines come out almost 2 months ahead of time? Model railroader, trains etc. When I remember the magazines coming out right before that month. Looking forward to finding this answer out.
Micro Mark sells O and HO/On3 locomotive test stands. Assembled O and HO/On30 versions are available and unassembled kits in HO are available. These are more versatile than David’s stand because they can be placed on any piece of flex track or sectional track. Here’s the product numbers:
O gauge Micro Mark # 83417
HO/On30 Micro Mark # 82896
HO scale (unassembled) Micro Mark # 83176
I would like to see a segment on model railroad signals. I do not want timers. All I want is to change a signal from green to red when a train passes and back to green when the next signal is tripped. What do I need? Thanks,
Allen.
Thanks, David, another great episode. I have another option for layout scenery cleanup. Several years ago, I purchased an adaptor that fits to the end of a standard vacuum hose. It also came with two or three different attachments. The adaptor cuts the nozzle size and air volume down to model railroad size and works very well. I believe I purchased it from Micro-Mark.
David,
Very informative video in many aspects… I can use most of them. I’ve been going back and reviewing videos from the early days of MRVP and sometimes I have a question from that series… How does that question get to you for a possible answer from so long ago… through the ‘Recent Comments’ section to the right of this screen?
First Jenny, then Cody and now you have joined in the perfection of recording a whole video without one error or out-take? Maybe Ben or Jenny could do more faces to try and trip you up?
Allan
David: Another great episode. You are so enthusiastic about your subject, no matter how mundane, and your enthusiasm and upbeat presentation is contagious. Keep up the good work.
Hey David, love the videos. My question for the show is: why are no manufacturers making illuminated switch indicator lamps for HO gauge layouts. As a kid on my Lionel “O” gauge train set (1950’s) the switches had a red-green light telling the direction of the switch. With LED lamps I would think this would be a simple thing to make. It would spark up the looks of the railroad too.
