Asphalt

I’m using Woodland Scenics’ Subterrain Road System Top Coat Asphalt over plaster for roads. It does a good job, but straight out of the bottle it looks like fresh, hot from the roller, never driven on asphalt. If anybody has used this product, could you suggest what to put over it to age it? Thanks.

lightly sand it with sand paper to get rid of the new look, then also you could make patches, cracks, seams, etc. by going back in with bits of new asphalt

Thanks for the idea, Javern. I would never have thought of sanding it. I could only think in terms of spraying it lightly with grey paint or weathering colours. I lightly–VERY lightly–sanded it with 400-grit sandpaper then rubbed it with a dry soft fine-grained sponge to get rid of the lines. It looks pretty good. Now to get the oil streaks down the middle of the lanes and the dividing lines. Those dashed lines are pretty small in N scale, but I found some gel pens and paint pens at Michael’s that seem to do a pretty good job.
