Took my first long train ride (in a long time) yesterday from Toronto to Chicago. “VIA” line from Toronto to London, Ontario, then switched to Amtrak, which took me through Sarnia/Port Huron & customs all the way to Chicago Union Station.
Loved it all the way! Thought I would read my book, but never stopped looking out the window from 6:50 am Chicago time until 6:27 pm Chicago time, 32 minutes late in the rain.
The whole way, I was inspired to think of ideas as to how I might help improve private passenger railroads in the USA and Canada, as I love the experience. So much better than a car! Have been riding the Burlington commuter line to & from Chicago’s western suburbs since I was a kid and always loved it, too.
So: I am new to Trains magazine and this site and forum. I am not really a model train buff but just love the experience of actual travel on a passenger rail line.
Is there a group following and working to improve passenger private rail service in North America? I’d like to get plugged in.
Thanks to all in advance.
