I want to model an AT&SF GP-7u in N scale, and was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to go about replicating the Topeka style cab I would need. I plan on starting with an Atlas GP-7, and cutting down the short hood. I’ve thought about sanding the normally rounded cab roof down to match a Topeka cab. Thanks.
Won’t work. Santa Fe made their own cabs for the u’s.Aaaaaaaaaaaah here it is. June 2009 issue, article “Rebuild a GP7 the Santa Fe way” written by Craig Chandler. Its HO, but it’s what you’re looking for. He started with a GP35 cab (38 or 40 will also work) and used sheet styrene to raise the height slightly and create the steeper angled roof slope.
Craig, thank you.
Start with a Atlas GP7 undec body and remove the cab and short hood…Use the cab and shoot hood from the Atlas GP35.The GP35 cab and body is sold separately and can be ordered direct from Atlas or through your LHS.
You could probably get by with lowering the GP7 short hood.
