AT&SF No. 3751 readied for April excursion

Please come out to the heart of the old Santa Fe!

Wish I could be there. Ontario is about the worst place in the civilized world to live if you like steam locomotives.

Since 3751 runs on BNSF/Amtrak rails mostly, I think it would be awesome if it could be someday sent to the Pacific Northwest (Portland-Seattle-Spokane, east thru Montana to Chicago then south to Texas and then back home to California. Pulling the BNSF business train for employee specials and throw in a few Amtrak coaches for the general public to ride behind a real working steam locomotive. Maybe hold some kind of contest wherein the winners get to ride in the cab. This would allow a lot of people to see another fine example of steam that they might never get to see in these parts of the BNSF system. Also maybe someday send Milwaukee 261 west and then south for people to see and possibly in another year send SP&S 700 down to California then east to Texas then north to Chicago and then west toward home. Spread this kind of goodwill over several years and that’s a lot of positive P.R.

I’ve been watching some u tube videos of European steam excursions and I noticed that they do a very wise and aesthetically pleasing thing. Namely, they put the diesel or electric protection power at the back of the train so that the steamers seem to be operating solo and there’s no compromising of the photogenic qualities of the featured star of the show. Personally I HATE to see a modern diesel in the same picture with a majestic steamer. I know they’re necessary but get 'em outta sight!

So is this meaning her 15 year inspection coming soon?
