Hi i put kadees on my gp 38 50 60 and the couplers are way too high was wondering if the kadee with the overshank would work to lower them i dont want to modify the chassis and all the other stuff i was thinking Kadee 22 32 or 42 any thoughts
What coupler did you try? I assume you just tried #5 or #148 couplers. Here is a link to the official Kadee conversion list:

Jim
I used the ones they suggested still to high i think there conversion is wrong i think the overset coupler would solve the problem i used the 38 and so on it seems the center set coupler sits way to high
I have three Athearn GP 40-2’s, the old blue box version, with Kadee 30 series couplers. I did them 6 or 7 seven years ago and I have a clear memory of using the Kadee recommended coupler, which I think was a #38. They come out the right height with centerset couplers. The Kadee what-fits-what list has been dead on accurate in my experience. I trust it.
I mounted the draft gear on TOP of the cast on Athearn mounting lug. I drilled and tapped the mounting lug for 2-56 and secured the draft gear with a nylon screw. The draft gear can be mounted either of two ways, thin side down or thick side down. I mounted them thin side down to the mounting lug.
Check coupler height against an accurate gauge, not against other rolling stock. Much rolling stock has couplers mounted too low, especially Athearn blue box freight cars, which all need a washer under the trucks to bring their couplers up to proper height.
If I remember correctly the recommended coupler for the GP38-2 is the #37. It that’s too high perhaps you can try the #32.
I did a quick fix i had some Kadee #31 and mad 2 transition cars works great i will use these until i get the overset couplers
Got Kadee 42s today they fixed my problem they were perfect
There are no rules. Use whatever works for you![;)]
