Athearn 28' Wedge Trailer Landing Gear (Ex A-Line Trailers)

I bought some Athearn HO 28’ wedge trailers (Ex A-Line Trailers) and the landing gear is modeled in the down position, the length of the landing gear is so long that the trailer will not set flat on the 5th wheel of a TOFC (Walthers Bethlehem 89’ TOFC or the Athearn Trinity 53’ / Twin 28’ spine cars). The trailer’s set on the landing gear on the front and the wheels on the back.

Before I cut the landing pad on 14 trailers off, remove a quarter inch of strut and glue the landing pad back on the bottom of the strut I was wondering if anyone who has already ran into this has a trick to correct the problem.

Since I’m the lazy sort, I might be inclined to buy replacement landing gear sets from A-Line, http://www.ppw-aline.com/detlveh.htm. According to the site information, the sets can be built with feet up or down.
