athearn and proto2ooo hit the ground!

Ah!!!. I went to pickup my athearn snoot nose from the shelf and the dynamic brakes fan came loose and the unit felland hit my gp60 2000 in house colours. The athearn just snaped back together but the 2000 broken handrail and steps. Both hit hard ground ! And I wasn’t even drinking! Now what? rambo1…

Break the Athearn to match.

I dunno…Play taps for the P2K GP60? [8][B)][:X]
Seriously I suggest contacting Walthers to see if you can by a new body or try to pickup another GP60 cheap on e bay so you can have the parts to fix yours.[:D]

I once had a helper GP-40 pushing my PRR K4 Pacific with 6 passenger cars. A switch machine on my layout was faulty so…
CRASH!
My beautiful Bahmann K4 hit the ground.
A month later it was back up and runing.
If you need parts for a bachmann train, go to there website!
Oh well, I hope your trains get fixed.

Wait…did yu say you were picking up the Athearn by the dytnamic brake hatch? That sounds like an incredibly stupid thing to do…but wow, talk about bad luck eh?
I’d personally try to save the GP60, especially since you’d have to paint another one to replace it. The steps are probably gone, but I’ve had luck fixing handrails with things like Ambroid ProWeld, a plastic welder. They don’t look quite as good as new, and you may have to touch up the paint, but it’s better than nothing.

Ouch, Rambo, that hurts…hope you can get them repaired and running soon.

Oh dear, they do not bounce i found this out some time back with an SD40 and Dash 9 both Athearn BB both took a trip to hell off my railroad and were badly damaged, i would have cried if it happened to a P2k or BLI.

[?] I wonder if I can get new steps for the 60. It’s the treaded area that’sbroken.rambo1…

Well, first, you need a drink…

I have had many broken parts on engines. If all the pieces are there, you might be able to fit them back in then paint over them. But it never worked for me either. Just know you are not alone with stuff like this happening.

The only units I’ve “wrecked” like that were my old Athearn F7, and Bachmann F40PH. Both derailed after hitting a misaligned switch, and then traveled to the floor. Even though the F unit hit my 100-year-old floor (and put a dent in it!), damage to it was relatively minor–some bent handrails, windshield popped out of place, and the motor demounted–all went back together easily. However, the F40 wasn’t as lucky. With that, I somehow bashed in the nose, knocked the cab figures out of place, damaged one of the trucks, and bent one of the driveshafts. Oops. But again, once I took it completely apart, glued up the nose (a little weathering hides the joints), and replaced the 'shafts, it all runs nicely.
