Athearn ATSF hopper different colour question

Hi

Just got in a number of ATSF hoppers Athearn [ga 106] ATH94407 but i have noticed that although the hopper is the same ,the colour is a different shade of brown from the few that i got a year ago.Is this a problem with the manifacturer or is prototopically correct for the ATSF to have darker brown or lighter brown for the same hopper or cars ?

There could be any number of reasons that the paint used by Athearn’s supplier is a different shade. The sort of mix used, the pigments, the base… all sorts of things change a paint’s color / shade. Don’t spend a minute worrying about it. Weather it nicely as advised by the fine staff and contributors at MR; put it on the layout and enjoy.

By the way, growing up in KC, and very close to ATSF most of the time, I’ve seen all sorts of shades of Santa Fe “Mineral Brown” on prototype equipment.
