Am going to purchase an Athearm HO B&O EMD F-7 A unit.($ 88) .Just want everyone’s opinion on the quality of the product as am new to American railroad modelling.

Suggestions about other companies for the same loco are welcome. I am not looking for something very expensive.

Is it Athearn Genesis? The price suggests it is. The Genesis F units have excellent scale fidelity and performance.

The Genisis are really good looking loco’s and running, you might want to look for some in Proto 2000 too. Stewart also makes a nice loco. And the lower cost ones, you might consider the Bachmann and Spectrum line.

P2K does not make a F7. T he Stweart isn’t as detailed as the Genesiss F7 and runs about the same price…
As far as Bachman/Spectrum,buy at your own risk.

I have narrowed my search down to Athearn but there is just one problem.

Only the FT-A unit is available and I am looking for both the A as well as the B unit.

Is it OK if I use the Athearn A unit and the B unit from a different company (say Bachmann spectrum).

In any case I was going to go in for an unpowered B unit so the power compatibilty is not an issue. I just want the detailing to match so that both of the units do not look vastly different.
