i am interested in the old(er) athearn bb c44-9w, namely csx 9001. does anyone have any of these locomotives? If so, could you post a review of it? A picture of the chassie would also be nice.
If you’ve ever seen the chassis of any Athearn Blue Box locomotive, you’ve seen the chassis of the C44-9W.
Do you know the pulling power of one? I have a BB gp38-2 that pulls 30 cars around my layout.[%-)]
I have an UP AC4400 version and it’s almost identical–have added lots of details, etc. With those sintered wheels they have great traction, but get dirty more than the polished variety.
You might modify the paint/numbering job of one, or even start with undec version.

The handrails are included, but the grabs need to be purchased and added. I also prefer to use precision cast handrail supports when a high level of detail is desired.

where can you get the grabs?is the kit drilled for them?
Lots of sources for grabs, go to Walthers and do a search. I think they have some dimples for drilling, can’t remember for sure if they have them everywhere you may want a grab.
