Athearn BB pricing

I was at a LightShip Hobbies in Charlottesville, VA; they had Athearn and Roundhouse kits for 25%, off I bought 3 Athearn BB and paid $19.50 total for all of them:

  1. 50’ Refeer, Pacific Fruit Express $6,19
  2. 40’ Refeer, Pacific Fruit Express $5.81
  3. 50’ PS Boxcar North Lousiana & Gulf $7.50
    My question is are those good prices? (seeing as how I’ve been gearing up for the plunge in model railroading for a year now, and still have a ton of questions)
    PS. IF you are in the area the cashier said they are having a sale tomorrow, he wouldn’t tell me the discount but said it would be worth the trip.

Typical Athearn BB prices range from $7.50 to $9.50, so the five and six dollar ones were a deal.

I think that those are reasonable prices for BB kits.

Considering the prices for everything else in our hobby these sound like good prices. I would love to have been at the sale. They were about what I paid two months ago for ten cars ( 4.72 to 7.20) most were in 6.00 range. Good luck with the layout. Phil

I would consider that a fair price for Athearn BB kits. I got well over 100 of them.

You got a good deal I think. Most of my freight cars the BB ones came from train shows here in Illinois. The last 10 or so I bought were around the $4 to $6 a peice.
