I’am would like to use a Athearn locomotive shell on a P2k drive what modifications will I need to do or is it a good match? The drive is a for a 4axel unit and the shell is for it also.
I doubt very much that you would be able to do this, because the two manufacturers are so different in their dimensions and how the shell is held onto the chassis.
The only way you can tell is to try to install it and see where the interference is if any.
If it’s a Blue Box shell, there is a chance it may actually fit as the Blue Box units have slightly wider clearances on the hood units while dimensions on F units are pretty much comparable to those of other manufactuers.
Of course, some modifications may still be required. Let us know how it goes.
Based on some advice, I’m going to check and see if an Athearn Blue Box FP45 shell will fit onto a Proto 2000 SD60 chassis since the dimensions of the prototypes are similar.
I’ll post my results when I get started.
