You got that right. My wife bought one of those magazine racks that hang on the side of the tank. Its a guarantee there is never, and I mean never, anything in there that isn’t RR related![:D]

Walthers is a PRIVATELY owned company, and has low debt, so I would think that if some one of the other guys runs into trouble financially, look for Walthers to gobble up another “Life-Like”. Survival of the fittest!!!

Catalogs are far superior to internet searching, thats why they make “padded toilet seats.” That’s why I love Walthers.
yes catalogs are superior and I love making them. ( I’m a graphic designer, from the days before computers and now I use those too) But prices can change ect. And the Athearn site, well it seems many items have been discontiued to the effect that they aren’t even listed anymore. —Most importantly to me diesels.
I hope that Athearn was bought by Walthers, atleast it would be ran by people that likes Model Railroads…

Horizon is an exclusive type of distributor and does not share its products with other distributors. They also cut out the non store front sellers, so the prices of MDC and Athearn have been higher overall than prior to their buyout of Athearn.
Color me dense, but I fail to understand what business model Horizon is following that says to make your products LESS available to potential buyers, and at the same time, increase the pricing. They should have just stuck to their R/C stuff.
QUOTE: Both distributors should cooperate and offer both lines of products so the products in the Walthers catalog is complete.
Amen, brother.

thats interesting, I didn’t realize the attitudes of some of these companys. is athearn really just into the money? is that why noone likes the cab details and the wheels are made of pressed metal flake?
sorry to beat this topic like a dead horse but:
I went to that show this weekend and to my amazement the usual overflow of Athearn was replaced by an overflow of Bachman Spectrum. (not to mention the O scales)
I only got one Athearn.
Back to the original topic of this thread: SD 70. I bought the KATO this weekend just because of the bad horizon attitude alone.
