i have a bunch of undecorated athearn 40’ tank cars that im decaling up… anyone know what the load capacity is on these??? (Aka… does anyone have a decorated one they can take a look at and tell me what the decals say :)???)

An Athearn #1552 Dow 40’ chemical tank car is marked as “CAPY 100,000 lbs.” It has no gallon capacity marking.

All the blue boxes are marked with weight usually on the end label, and the gallon capacity as well. I suspect that a 40 footer would be 11,000 gallons.

No, the only other marking is “Lt Wt 87,200 lbs.” right under the capacity marking. These are on the car sides near the left end. The only marking on the ends of the car are its DOW X road number, which on this particular car is DOW X-38373.

Whether Athearn’s marking are prototypically correct is another matter.
