Athearn DCC Adaptor Board

Does anyone have a DCC adaptor board for a new athearn loco. I fried the light bulb contacts on mine and need another one. I could order one from Athearn but it would tkae 4-6 weeks to process my order. My loco is a C44-9W but any DCC adaptor board should fit.

Thanks,
Smoke

Sure Smoke. Since I put sound decoders in most of mine, I happen to have a few laying around, cluttering up the work bench. I even bet I have a Dash 9 one on the corner of the bench now.

Where do you want it sent?

Are you talking about the ‘decoder’ board? If so, you may have ‘fried’ the 1.5v Genesis light bulbs. Most decoders put out a full 12-14v for the light outputs. You need a resistor in series with each light to drop the voltage. A 470 ohm resistor should do it, but the Athearn bulbs are notorious for being all over the place. I would buy a selection of small 1/8th or 1/4 watt resisters in the range of 570 to 1000 ohms and test first.

Tilden,

Check your PM.

I didn’t fry the light bulbs just the hook up. here is a picture of what I fried. If you look to the left side you can see the hook up that is toast. I need the whole green board not just the “plug”[IMG]http://img474.imageshack.us/img474/9960/img6352xv1.jpg[/IMG

You missed the closing bracket in your post “[/img]” , I added it in the quote as I can’t edit your post directly.

Next time, use a little flux (rosin flux from Radio Shack) and try not to keep the heat of the iron on those tabs for more than 2-5 seconds.

Andrew,

The check is in the mail and soldering is always tricky. I did not include the jumper board, not because I don’t have them, I just forgot. From the picture, it looks like it is ok anyway. Probally Monday or Tuesday before you get it, depending on the USPS.

Good luck
