ATHEARN DCC READY GP35 Decoder?

I just purchased an Athearn RTR GP35 ( HO) DCC ready. For those who have one, or similar model, what do you recommend for a driver and sound decoder?

I have a dozen Athearn alleged DCC Ready locos. All have a flat 9 pin socket on top of the light board. However, every sound decoder I have or have seen, has a rectangular 8 pin plug, or has solder terminals. So I wind up hard wiring all my sound decoders into the “DCC Ready” locos.

To answer your question, you can use almost any kind of sound decoder you like, because you are going to end up hard wiring it in, and doing some soldering.
