The HO Big Boys, the HO Roundhouse 4-4-0s with sound, and the N 2-8-0s are due to arrive here next week. They’ll be in stores early September. The N Challenger is delayed a little, with new ETA about December, because we want to release the best quality product.
The shipping to dealers is imminent. I can’t remember what day they were leaving Horizon. I’ve not been invoiced for them as of this afternoon, so they have not shipped just yet but it is real close.
Internet Trains just sent me an email add for the Athearn BigBoy selling at $299. Also, Tonystrains at http://www.tonystrains.com has an article re the great tug of war between the TRIX and the PCM big boy.
CAZEPHYR: you’re welcome. New item updates are one way I hope to contribute around here.
Spoke with my Horizon salesperson this morning and she warned me about a rather large Athearn shipment leaving Champaign next week. So depending on where you live and with Labor Day in there, it could be a week or so before they show up. Not sure if that still qualifies as imminent, but they are close.
Saw one at my LHS saturday. Didn’t see it run but sure did look good. Better than the Challenger. Was reading through the manual and the sound is still MRC. Oh well.
They came into our store on Friday and they are really nice. The only real problem is the double chuff sound is really bad but once you change it to a single chuff, it is a lot better. Beautiful engine though. Well worth the money.
The price on Ebay for the one you listed is forty five dollars higher than Caboose Hobbies has them at the pre-release price. Seems like the Ebay would be less to start.
I saw one today at an Ace Hardware store in Tucson, Arizona, for $279, but I was not interested in purchasing it. It looked very nice with lots of detail, but it was behind glass in a locked case so I never asked to see it up close.
arrived friday, WOW!!! super detail, runs great. sound defaults not the best choices of availble sounds on the decoder, adjusted chuff rate, turned off double chuff, picked chuff sound, bell, and steamboat whistle, that better matched the films of the big boy that I have. programmed equally well in page and ops mode with digitrax zephyr. I sold my rivarossi for big bucks on “that” site last week to make room for the Athearn version In short, I couldn’t be happier.
