Has anyone seen a review or can offer an opinion of Athearn’s Genesis Series
F2A/B locos w/dc and sound decoders ? From prevoius posts here, MRC decoders which are used in these engines are not the best. Thanks in advance.

Just picked up the pair of F2A/B Passenger units B&M before christmas. Love the paint scheme and the details of both engines. Runs well together, with out any major tweaking of the CV’s. the Sound is not all that bad even though i am not a big MRC fan. It does tend to be on the loud side, even though I have turned it down to it’s lowest setting - especially when you first fire them up. the Bell and horn, once i changed them to a single chime horn sound about as well as i remember them to be.

Thanks Grumpybob for the quick response. I’m also considering buying B&M set. I’m curious; which color scheme did you go with - maroon or McGinnis blue?

I bought the McGinnis Blue. I was looking for a sound system for my passenger run. It makes it perfect. All my Maroon units are in freight service.
McGinnis Blue is nice. Sound not too bad but not up to Soundtrax quality.
Low speed control- very bad!! Worst of my 60+ engines. With CV2=0, min speed at step2 (28 step mode) is 10 smph. 128 step not much better.
Tried to change CV5 and CV6 to slow it down and they appear to have no effect on speed. Has anyone tried this?
I also don’t see capability to use custom speed tables. True??
