Athearn Genesis F3/F7 Coupler Boxes

I have an Athearn Genesis Warbonnet F7A #43L that need it’s couplers replaced. What type of coupler uses the round pockets?

Are the replacement coupler pockets sold separately?

I discovered that when changing out the plastic Kadees for metal ones, the pocket would crack or split in half.

You are probably referring to the Kadee #30 series. Those are the ones with the tiny spring that is next to impossible to fit into place. And, yes, the coupler box lids are notorious for cracking in two. Kadee does sell the coupler boxes, or gear boxes as Kadee calls them, separately in packs of 10. Very inexpensive. I have replaced those coupler boxes with different ones from other series, but I cannot recall which at the moment. One alternative on the coupler itself is the whisker coupler which eliminates the need for a spring.

Yes.

These should work for you. I forget where I got the draft gear boxes I use, and they might just be these 252s but they also have the small pin that engaged the hole in the Athern frame to keep the draft gear from twisting.
