Athearn Genesis F7 Southern Pacific "Bloody Nose"

I was happy to see an e-mail from Athearn announcing the July release of Genesis SP F7A and F7B in “Bloody Nose”.

The announcement mentions that these locomotives are “modernized” and have an “improved factory-installed onboard sound and DCC decoder”. I know there have been several mentions on this forum about the poor quality of the factory sound that comes from Athearn. Does anyone know if they have changed vendors?

Also, I’ve noticed that there doesn’t seem to be any FP 7s (passenger version) made by any manufacturers. Anyone know why?

Doesn’t Intermountain have the FP7s in their programm?

Atlas once made an FP7…is it still available?

Intermountain has a decent FP7 and it is available in HO now or at most shops.

They are four feet longer than a regular F7A and requires new tooling to produce so Athearn has not done it as of today.

The Intermountain FP7 are listed below. Many of them are listed out of stock now but they can be found in hobby shops if you look for them.

Rob Sarberenyi on the Espee list has gone a short ways out on a limb and said that Genesis will be doing an FP7. "Nuff said.

Thanks for the answers.
