Athearn Genesis SD75M - needs BNSF number decals

Hello- I’m new to the world of modeling, and to this forum. I recently purchased an Athearn Genesis SD75M. I assembled the BNSF unit (quite a chore on the older, largely non factory assembled model), but it has no numbering. Does anyone know where I might be able to find appropriate decals for my new model? Also, are numbering decals difficult to apply? Thanks in advance for any replies. -Nathaniel

You have come to right place. Microscale decals offers a plethora of decals in HO, N, and O. I am pretty sure they will have the decals you are looking for.

Applying decals is not too difficult. You will need to apply a clear gloss finish. This will give the decal the smoothest surface to adhere to. You will soak the the decal in distilled water like any other. Before placing it, you will need to apply some Microscale Micro Set. It helps soften the decal even more. Carefully place the decal. The hard part will be getting the numbers straight. After they are set and straight, look for any air pockets. If you do find any, take a hobby knife and carefully prick the bubble and apply some more Micro Set on the area. Once all that is done, you will want to apply another clear finish of paint such as clear flat or matte.

Good luck.

Will- Thanks so much for the prompt reply. You gave me exactly what I needed. -Nathaniel
