Athearn Genesis SP Mountain MT-4

I see they have hit the hobby shops and I saw one review on another site. The review seemed positive about the one he had. What I find interesting is that it appears a lot of people that placed orders for this locomotive have dropped out because it took Athearn so long to get the models into the stores. The reason I think this is so is there appears to be some pretty good discounts available and from that I gather the stores want to move them and get some cash flow. I had no intention of picking one up but at the prices I have seen I’m getting one with the Tsunami. Just some thoughts and observations I had. I have also seen some good discounts for the Athearn Genesis Union Pacific Big Boy and I assume for the same reasons.

Whoah, you mean they’re finally HERE?? [:P]

I’ll have to visit my two local hobby shops and greedily find out who’s getting it first! I have an old Balboa brass MT-4 that I love dearly and runs very nicely, but I’d really like to get one with the 6-wheel Vandy tender and the “Use It Or Don’t” Skyline casing. And I’ve had pretty good luck with Genesis–the F-3’s I’ve got are smooth and powerful, and my Genesis Rio Grande 4-6-6-4 probably works better than the prototype did, LOL!

And the pre-production model I’ve seen of the MT-4 looks GOOD!

Thanks for the heads-up.

I saw the Athearn MT 4 yesterday at our local train shop and it is a drop dead georgous looking locomotive Makes a brass model look like tin plate. Even though I model the 60s with diesel, I’ll have to get one anyway.
