Which is better for HO? I am very new, but have decided I want to start right from the begining. For some reason, I fell in love with the Athearn Genisis SD70 Conrail, #1, Standard Cab and it will be my first purchase of a good loco. Your opinions?
Don’t overlook the Kato.
The SD-70 is a very good piece- You say that you are new and just starting. Make sure that your layout has at least 22" min radius to handle the MAC 70. If not, try any 4 axle power from Kato, Atlas, P2K, Stewart, Genesis or Spectrum. Welcome to the hobby.

Well think of this…If you want a well rounded locomotive roster you will need locomotives from Athearn(Genesis and RTR),Atlas.Life Like (P2K) and Kato.[:D]
So, A little from each of the different vendors? I’ll keep that in mind.
I have noticed that some of the locos have dummy’s, is this the only wat to have two units pulling, or can they be both mechanical? Is there a limit as to how many mechanical locos you can have in the same train (at the same time) ?
I will leave the technical stats up to the pros but I can run fully powered P1K, A-B-B-A and another P1K A-B-B-A DC, off one 30Volt Amp power pack with no sweat.
When you run muti units you must have a pack that can deliver sufficent current to the track without blowing the built in circuit breaker.
