Can any of you experts tell me what the part is that connects the Dogbone (Hex) to the worm Assembly. I’ve being looking on Athearns site and closest I can come up with is the Slotted Coupling #41017 ???
Also is Internet Trains a Good site to go to for these; they are a little cheaper then Athearn?
Cary, not sure what you mean by Dog Bone? On my Athearn’s with Hex Drive, the drive shafts slips into the flywheel then slips in the slotted yoke (slots work like a U Joint) and that is pressed on to the worm gear.
Which particular Athearn diesel do you have? If you go to this site, http://www.hoseeker.org/athearn.htm, you can most likely find an instruction sheet that will identify exactly which part you need.
That it is Jeff; for whatever reason I could not find it and it’s right on Athearns list. Using them mainly for GP-38/40 & C44/AC4400’s and if I need to extend the Dogbone or Spline Shaft I just use some Styrene Tubing and make appropriate cuts and works like a charm; no problems yet anyway.
I thought as much. I had to get a set a couple of years ago when I upgraded the drive in an Athearn blue box SDP40F to hex drive. Changed out everything but the trucks and wired in a Digitrax DZ125. It’s mate was a dummy so I just fitted the body of the dummy loco on a cut down Proto 2000 E6 chassis and wired a DZ125 into it also. The trucks are a dead give-away but it still runs and looks great.
