I have the Ath HO C&NW C44-9W KIT that was discontinued long ago. I am upgrading it to the RTR like quality. I was wondering of how to install the ditch lights. Has anyone who has this kit or the RTR locomotive installed ditch lights in it?
I have the SD70M and I assume the method is the same. The light bulb comes up through the walkway and into the ditch light. The light bulb is vertical. The wires go straight back under the walkway and on into the interior of the unit. It is a tight fit as I just had to replace one. You might have to drill some holes for this to happen.
WPAllen The ditch lights are on the pilot where the snow plow is! Not on the walkway where you think they are.
Sorry my terminology was wrong. Just trying to help.
I guess it is where you want them. You can keep them located below the anti-climber where Athearn had the mounted or place them above the anti-climber where most prototype Dash-9 have them. It’s really up to you.
What I would do is get rid of the ones that Athearn uses as dummies and purchase a pair from DetailsWest or any of the other detail companies that supply ditchlights. I like DetailsWest which has both types for what ever location you choose.
You will need to have a drill set and drill holes for the wires. Do you know what kind of bulbs to use? Like most, I use the miniatronics ones.
Here is the Blue Box kit that I did working ditchlights on.
If you want to know the exacts on how I did it then PM me and I’ll go into detail.
Zach how did you add the ditch lights?
